Spud poles provide a simple and highly reliable solution for positioning and securing a vessel. Kalkman designs and manufactures these systems fully in-house, with a strong focus on durability and operational reliability.

Spud poles have become an essential system in inland shipping, dredging and offshore operations.

Kalkman engineers all spud pole systems in-house, based on our core values of reliability, long service life and minimal maintenance. As with our thrusters, each system is tailored to the specific vessel characteristics, operating area and client requirements.

Our spud poles are available with different lifting systems:

• Hydraulic cylinder system. Enables controlled lifting and lowering, including the ability to actively press the pole into the seabed (not relying solely on self-weight)
• Chain drive with calibrated pocket wheel. Robust and reliable system with precise positioning

The steel poles are manufactured in the Netherlands using standardized dimensions. This minimizes tolerances and reduces play between telescopic sections, resulting in a quieter and more wear-resistant system. Each spud pole is equipped with three independent safety systems to ensure the pole is fully raised.
